Q1. What is your name, your job position at USMC, and how many years you’ve been with the company?
• I’ve been here at US Mine Corp for 12 years, and I work for the Safety and Security department, but I’ve worked in mining under Scott for a total of 25 years at a couple of different mining companies and projects.

Q2. Give a back story of how you got hired and how you started with the company.
• I have worked under Scott for a really long time in mining, so when US Mine Corp came into play, he hired me when it officially opened.

Q3. Give a timeline of the different positions and departments you’ve worked in during your time with the company, if any.
• I started as a haul truck driver first and did that for a while. I spent most of my time over on the mining side operating equipment, and then a little time at the guard shack. Most of my time was doing safety and security. Wherever they needed me, I would keep the ball rolling.

*Editor’s Note: Joe Ximenez is US Mine Corps’ longest-standing employee!

Q4. What’s your favorite part about working for and at USMC?
• I just like the people and helping others and keeping them safe; that’s what I like to do.

Q5. What is the most memorable memory you have working at USMC?
• Seeing a huge mountain lion over by the laterite mining area. He was a big one and didn’t take no crap. I thought it was a dog at first and then I saw the tail and realized. He took his sweet time crossing the road and kept looking at me while I was stopped in the haul truck. Another one is seeing rattlesnakes, a lot of them!

Q6. Give a fun fact about yourself.
• Something people might not know is that prior to mining, I worked for the government in the Department of Health and Safety as a team leader in Hazardous Materials Spills. In my spare time, I like playing pool and being with my family. I know how to play the trumpet and piano too.

Q7. Fun debate: Does pineapple belong on pizza?
Hell yeah! It tastes good, I’ll eat the whole thing.

US Mine Corporation, headquartered in Ione, California, in conjunction with Purebase Corporation, hosted an educational guided field tour of US Mine Corp’s mineral reserve for the UC Davis Soil Genesis, Morphology & Classification Course (SSC 120).

UC Davis Professor Rebecca Lybrand focuses on the specific topics of how the geological units form, the age of the deposits, and industrial uses and applications of such clay minerals after it is mined in this course. With the tour guided by CEO Scott Dockter, US Mine Corp Senior Geologist, Chris Strong, and Purebase Director of Sales and Corporate Development, David Harvey, the students were able to witness all operations of the kaolin clay, as well as the silica sand and heavy mineral concentrate sands that also inhabit the property.

Another valuable topic discussed was Purebase’s utilization and development of the naturally occurring kaolin clay on the mineral reserve as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in the production of portland cement and low-carbon concrete.

“These guided tours provide a great deal of insight on just how massive of a scale these mineral operations are,” said CEO Scott Dockter. “Attendees can physically gauge the vast quantity of resources we have here in Ione by seeing it in person. What we have here is quite remarkable and we are proud that it is put towards an incredibly important cause of future sustainability and decarbonization, as well as all of the various industrial applications and uses.”

US Mine Corp was featured in a business spotlight column in the Ledger Dispatch, Amador, and Calaveras Objective Regional Newspaper. The Ledger Dispatch is the publishing newspaper for the same county in California that US Mine Corp resides in, and the article educates our local community on US Mine’s operations and how our products go into a vast variety of applications of things we use in our everyday lives.

Second and third graders from Mrs. Mikaela Koppers class at San Andreas Elementary started their school year off with a fun and educational field trip to US Mine Corporation in Ione on August 24, 2023. While their monthly topic centered around the property and usefulness of various materials such as metal, wood, paper, and soil, they got to learn about the specific material of clay, erosion, and local watersheds.

US Mine Corporation is a privately owned and fully permitted mining operation in Ione. It is actively producing clay products and silica products in California that are distributed for use throughout the United States and Canada. Currently, US Mine Corporation is the largest producer of kaolin clay and silica on the West Coast. Silica sand is used for the glass industry and construction industry. Kaolin clay is widely used in rubber, paint, ceramics, plastics, and agriculture. At the current production rate, US Mine Corporation’s Ione Clay Project and Ione Silica Project have more than 100 years of mine life available.

With the tour guided by Mr. Scott Dockter, CEO and owner of US Mine Corporation, the students got to learn more about the properties of clay and what the clay from US Mine Corporation is used for. They were especially excited to look at all of the large heavy machinery in action.

While the students took away some very valuable education, they each also got to take a safety vest home with them after the field trip as a souvenir
